Mold Town Council
Mold Town Council was established in 1974 following the reorganisation of local government and the dissolution of Mold Urban District Council. It is one of 34 Town and Community Councils in Flintshire and serves as the grassroots level of local government for the town.
As the historic county town of Flintshire, Mold is a vibrant market town with a population of approximately 10,100 residents. In addition to serving the town itself, Mold acts as an important service, retail, cultural and administrative centre for many surrounding villages and communities across Flintshire.
For local government purposes, the town is divided into four electoral wards:
- Mold Broncoed
- Mold East
- Mold South
- Mold West
Each ward is represented by four Town Councillors, giving a total of sixteen elected Members.
Your Town Councillors
Town Councillors are elected to represent the interests of local residents, businesses and community organisations. Councillors work on behalf of the community, helping to shape local services, support community projects, respond to planning applications, manage Council assets and promote the wellbeing of the town.
Being a Town Councillor is an unpaid public service role. Councillors do not receive a salary for carrying out their duties.
In accordance with determinations made by Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru, Councillors are entitled to claim:
- A mandatory payment of £156 per year to recognise the costs incurred in carrying out their role.
- A mandatory payment of £52 per year towards office consumables and administrative costs.
Councillors may choose to decline these payments.
Mayor and Deputy Mayor
At the Annual Meeting of the Council, held each May, Members elect a Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
The Mayor serves as the civic representative of Mold, attending community events, supporting local organisations and acting as an ambassador for the town throughout the year.
The Town Mayor is entitled to an annual allowance of £500 to assist with expenses incurred whilst undertaking civic duties.
Council Meetings
Mold Town Council normally meets on the last Wednesday of each month. There are no ordinary Council meetings in August or December.
Council meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend and observe the democratic process. Meeting dates, agendas and minutes are published on the Council's website.
Agendas for forthcoming meetings are also displayed at the Town Council Office.
Public Participation
Mold Town Council welcomes participation from local residents.
A period of up to 15 minutes is allocated at the start of Council meetings for members of the public to speak on matters included on the agenda. A maximum of five minutes per subject will normally be permitted.
At the discretion of the Chair, a member of the public may also raise a matter that does not appear on the agenda for up to five minutes.
Please note that the Council cannot debate or make decisions on items that are not included on the published agenda. However, matters raised may be noted and considered for inclusion on a future agenda where appropriate.
The Chair reserves the right to intervene to maintain the orderly conduct of the meeting, to prevent repetition or irrelevant discussion, and, where necessary, to adjourn the meeting.
Working for Mold
Mold Town Council is committed to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for residents, promoting civic pride, protecting local heritage and working in partnership with community groups, businesses and other organisations to help Mold continue to thrive.
The Council welcomes engagement from residents and encourages everyone to play an active role in the future of our town.
